The unclothed human form is the basis of most Western art and it is the testing ground where new ideas and styles are applied first. I became fascinated by the nude when I started the Square Series - a group of contemporary nudes taken from found photographs, emphasising the everyday setting compared to the often classical aspects of the figure. It was like seeing a Bonnard, Ingres or Titian painting through a modern lens. Since then, I've been investigating how the combine the very new and very ancient in pictures of the figure.
